Our Curriculum

Children at Rainbow blossom through the use of a well-rounded, learn-through-play curriculum. Our current models include the Creative Curriculum and the latest principles recommended by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Our curriculum emphasizes the child’s social, emotional, cognitive, physical, and spiritual development. Using the Creative Curriculum Developmental Continuum, the teacher will assess each child’s progress and create appropriate learning opportunities. Throughout the day the children are nurtured in a warm, caring, and safe environment. Children who are English learners will adjust rapidly under the loving care of our highly trained multicultural staff.
Hands-on Learning Centers
Students are encouraged to make independent choices and develop their thinking skills as they learn at various learning centers situated throughout the classroom. These stations provide opportunities for the individual child as well as the entire group to develop sensory, listening, writing, and math skills. We use art materials, easels, manipulatives, computers, dramatic play, and much more to engage the students with hands-on experiences in an age-appropriate setting, stimulating their curiosity and intellectual growth. A print-rich classroom environment and a high-quality multicultural library complement the learning centers and will promote literacy.
Children also hear and respond to stories, learn to debate various subjects, and are encouraged to express their creativity. They may take part in music, movement, and art classes specially tailored toward their age levels. Their gross motor skills are developed with ample play time in our full-size gym and private fenced-in playground.
Parental Involvement
Parents and guardians are welcomed into the classroom to help with special projects, read to the class, offer a lesson in an area of expertise, serve as chaperons on field trips, and, of course, celebrate their child’s birthday and/or holidays throughout the year.
From time to time, educational seminars and workshops are offered to parents, which may include:
- presentations by educators,
- English classes for speakers of other languages,
- forums by neighborhood speakers on immigration matters or the availability of social benefits.
Christ-Centered Environment
Teaching about God and Jesus is also very important to us. We believe that God is Love, who inspires and strengthens all efforts to raise children in safe and caring ways, so that they can reach their fullest potential. We are committed to providing a Christ-centered atmosphere, so in our non-UPK classrooms, our curriculum includes prayer, Bible teaching, Christian stories and songs, a weekly chapel service, and regular visits with the pastor of St. Jacobus Lutheran Church. Our goal is to instill Christian values and to cultivate in children a sense of spirituality, joy, community, respect for others, and their own value as beloved children of God.
At Rainbow Christian Preschool“Teaching with Love” has been our motto since 1987. Rainbow children learn and play in a modern, spacious facility featuring bright, well-equipped, air-conditioned classrooms, a full-size indoor gymnasium, and a state-of-the-art private outdoor playground. Our student body represents the many nationalities living in our little corner of northwestern Queens, which makes our school a true rainbow of many colors. |
